Velvet- The name itself sounds soft n silky.As a child we would often touch n feel this amazing fabric out of curiosity. Velvet is a great fabric to use in home decor and furnishings.The feel is what is being paid for.These days extensive use can be seen in various colors and its tints and shades. Earlier it mostly came in darker tones but now many pastels and earthy tones are available.
Few uses of velvet in home decor are suggested below.
Cushion Cover-Elements of velvet can easily be added through cushion covers.The fabric is expensive and need maintenance therefore less is more to use it.
Good cushions adds richness and volume in decor.Velvet itself speaks volume that is advised to use in one element at a time.Velvet patchwork is a popular technique often used in decor and fashion both.
Quilts and Bedding Set– Most commonly used. Velvet quilts are widely used as the silky feel while sleeping is totally desirable.The bedding in velvet provides warmth and comfort,the cozy feel.But the only drawback is that you surely don’t want to get up and come out of the silky land of velvet bedding. lOl!
The bedding set comes in huge variety.They add the exact relaxing feel in bedroom which totally desirable to sleep and relax.Hugging your quilt while sleeping alone does not even makes you feel alone .
If using bedding set then try to use it with plain sheets to avoid heaviness in the room.
On Sofas and Chairs- Velvet as furnishing is in trend these days.The relaxing feel of this fabric makes it applicable at every place of relaxation easily.
Curtains- Although not much desired , but velvet curtains gives royal and rich feel.If doing velvet on windows or doors then the entire decor should be minimal otherwise can look clumsy.In old times , in palaces velvet curtains were used alot with heavy carved furniture and many precious accessories for decor.But now a days ,palaces are only to be seen as museums or hotels, we live in much more modern time s and have space issue.So combining too much with velvet is not a good idea.Keep other stuff simple and shift the focus on this richly rich fabric for furnishing.
Table Runners- A good way to add minimal richness.One can place a velvet table runner as the only heavy furnishing piece and can play with the other decor to an extent.
Ottoman- These are a big trend theses days.Previously they were confined to only bedrooms but now they can be places anywhere in living rooms, study or lobby.They can be a great storage as well.Velvet ottoman looks really good and comfy and very popular as well.It goes with many types of furniture from wood to cane etc.
